Paint Protection Film (Clear Bra) - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q : What is Paint
Protection Film? A : Basically, it is a relatively thick, pliable film that
has a strong adhesive on one side and a chemical resistant layer on the other
side. Once it is properly applied to the car's painted surface, like the
leading edge of the hood, or front bumper, it is a strong protection against
rocks thrown up by vehicles on the highway in winter and bug splats in summer
keeping the paint underneath in perfect condition. An additional bonus is
the material's nearly invisible protection does not change the look of your
vehicle, like an ugly black vinyl bra or bug deflector.
Q : Will my automotive
insurance cover the reapplication of Paint Protection Film kit in case of an
accident? A : In most cases - Yes, we work directly with all major
automotive insurance carriers and body shops to reinstall Paint Protection
Film. Always check with your insurance carrier. We also
recommend letting the insurance agent or body shop know which paint protection
shop you want use for the estimate and reinstallation of the Paint
Protection Film. Take an active role and do not leave this up to the
insurance agent or body shop. You will need to wait a period of time for
the new paint to cure prior to reinstallation of the Paint Protection Film.
Verify the duration with your body shop.
Q : Why is Paint
Protection Film better than vinyl black bras, sealants or even no protection? A : Rocks, insects, and debris can significantly show
wear on your paint within a short period of time. Vinyl bras can catch dirt and
debris between it and cause scratches, discoloration and fading. A
properly installed clear bra can solve both of these problems and you will not
increase drag (code name for increased gas mileage) over a vinyl bra. The
best sealants offer short term paint protection and will not protect
the paint from stone chips and sand abrasion. Paint Protection Film will
also increase the value of your vehicle when it comes time to sell or trade
it.
Q : Do I need to clean my vehicle prior to the installation? A : We ask that your vehicle is quick washed and not covered with excessive bugs/dirt/debris. We will take from there and prep, clay and prepare the surfaces prior to the application of the paint protection film.
Q : Is Paint Protection
Film (Clear Bra) really invisible? A : The
film is over 99.5% clear and very difficult to see once it is properly applied
to your vehicle. Most people will not even notice that it’s on the
vehicle. So, it is practically invisible. We always recommend a
bikini cut for dark painted vehicles to hide the hood line under certain angles
and lighting.
Q : Why does my white vehicle look a few shades different under the Paint Protection Film? A : White vehicles with paint protection film inherently have what is called a prism effect taking place. This is best explained using an extreme example by taking 1" thick Plexiglas (similar to your 8 mil paint protection film) and laying the Plexiglas on your hood. As you look through the Plexiglas you notice an off white tint. The refracted light passes through the Plexiglas (made up of 3 primary colors) with yellow (a primary color) tints your white paint every so lightly and background light around the vehicle causes a slight change in color. On a stark white car, you can see less than 0.5% of color under certain light conditions. On those cars, your best bet is to seal the pores of the film with a purpose made" sealants to slow the absorption of the contaminants and then clean it with a purpose made cleaner each time you wash your car. I would recommend XPEL cleaner and than the purpose made sealant.
Q : Will the paint fade differently
under the Paint Protection
Film? A : No.
The Paint Protection Film’s material contains UV inhibitors to prevent the
film from reacting to the sun’s rays and allows a certain amount of light to
filter through the material to let the paint “age” with
the rest of the vehicle.
Q : What parts can be
protected by Paint Protection Film? A : Here are just a few
ideas:
Q : How long
a time period to install a standard kit (hood, fenders, mirrors and front bumper)? A
: Installations are
typically completed in 3 - 8 hours. We recommend the vehicle be dropped
off the night before in our “Certified” Air Conditioned Clean Room and we will
usually have your vehicle complete by end of business the following day.
Prior to film application the vehicle's paint must cool down due to the
engine temperature and outside heat since these condition dry the installation
solution prematurely. We wash and clay all vehicles prior to film
installation. Dependent on the vehicles
color and coverage selections we may require the vehicle for an additional
day. Any custom work would depend on
coverage to determine the amount of time.
Q : Do you have a film for matte paint or matte racing strips
finishes? A : Yes - we call this stealth (aka: frost
bite) paint protection film. We also have samples of the material in the shop. Pic
Q : What products does Clearshield Protection Services, Inc. use to protect the Paint Protection Film after the installation is complete? A : We seal each client's vehicle after the clear bra installation using purpose made paint protection acrylic sealant and finishing solution which fully cures under UV light. The finishing solution is not for daily use and used only for initial sealing after the clear bra installation. Each client leaves our facility with a fully sealed and protected paint protection film plus Clearshield Services Maintenance & Care Flyer. This film sealing step is usually overlooked by installers due to lack of knowledge, experience, cost or time constraints.
Q : How do I care for the Paint Protection
Film? A : Proper care and maintenance of the
film will prolong the life of your Paint Protection Film. Frequent washing and waxing/sealing
is recommended. Always remove bugs and sap as soon as possible as you
would your painted surfaces. We recommend the use professional grade
automotive soaps with lubricity additives and a premium wash mitt to wash the
film along with the balance of your vehicle. Do not use any harsh
solvents (toluene/xylene/naptha/kerosine) or any waxes/sealants with dyes and
avoid products with petroleum distillates. We highly recommend
waxes/sealants which are low dusting so the edges do not collect buildup. Polymeric and/or acrylic sealants – offer the
best protection and durability. For large coverage vehicles (motor homes) we
recommend 303 Aerospace Protectant be applied before any trips to provide UV
screening protection, repel dust, soiling and staining and each time you wash
the vehicle. Apply recommended sealant protection at least every three
months.
We
recommend these paint protection care products: 1. XPEL Paint Protection Film
Sealant 2. XPEL "Purpose
Made" urethane film cleaner 3 Vitreo
– Polymeric Shield. To insure you understand the care required
we provide each of our clients a Maintenance
& Care Flyer with specific recommendations and products
recommended for use on your specific film.
Always
check your automotive/truck wash facilities for the use of harsh chemicals
which may have the ability to damage the urethane films. Automated wash facilities
rely on chemicals which lay on your vehicle for a period of time to help loosen
debris from the surface prior to being high pressure rinsed off. Staining
and damages caused by film etching are not covered under the warranty.
Automated washing facilities do not take the place of regular
hand/machine applied wax/sealants which offer long term protection
for the Paint Protection Film.
Q : How long will the Paint Protection Film last, when will I have
to replace it? A : All too many times I get asked, “how long is the
warranty and what will the paint protection film look like after 5 to 7 years
later from the day it was put on?” Now to answer that question I like to
ask this simple question in return. If you were to go and buy a brand new
car directly off the show room floor, what will it look like 5 to 10 years
later? He or she usually laughs and says “well I guess that depends on
how well I take care of it”, which is exactly how I respond to their initial question
regarding the Paint Protection Film product life.
Factors that influence how long Paint Protection
Film will last:
· Amount of time a vehicle is exposed to the weather.
·
Wear-n-tear the vehicle is
exposed to.
· How often is the vehicle washed?
· How often is the Paint Protection Film cleaned? (removal of bugs, sap etc.)
· How often is the Paint Protection Film sealed/waxed?
· Geographical climate
· Type and manufacturer of the film
Q : Does the Paint Protection Film yellow? A : Our Paint Protection films come with a warranty against yellowing. With the new technology in polyurethane films it is possible to produce films that resist yellowing. The length of time your film will stay crystal clear depends on how you maintain the film. Which cleaning products are used on the film, as well as environmental factors such as sunlight and air pollution also play a key roll in the aesthetic longevity of the film.
Yellowing on Paint Protection Films have two (2) main causes that you should be aware of.
1.) Inclusions in the film. Tiny particles of diesel smoke, air pollution, road grime, pollen and the like can become trapped in the pores of the film and cause the urethane to look as if it has changed colors. In fact, the urethane is still the same as it always was, you are just seeing the color of the trapped particles. The best preventative is to seal the Paint Protectin Film with approved products. Avoid waxes or polishes which contain dyes or petroleum distillates. These products can stain the film or, in the case of the petroleum distillates, cause a chemical reaction that will discolor the film. Contrary to the information on the forums and Venture - do not use Plexus on the paint protection film. This product has proven to yellow the film over time.
2.) Chemical reaction with the urethane. Certain types of petroleum distillates that are present in some car polishes, cleaning agents and such can cause urethane to discolor. Owners of white cars with PPF should avoid brushless car washes at all costs due to the type of chemicals used in these machines. Similarly, some waxes, polishes and bug and tar removers may contain chemicals that will discolor the film.
Q : Does Paint Protection Film carry a
warranty? A : Yes, all our films
come with a manufacturer and a Clearshield Protection Services, Inc.
"Peace of Mind" Warranty. We stand behind our work to
ensure complete customer satisfaction that the film is installed properly and
free of defects. We would not deliver a vehicle to a customer that we would not
be absolutely satisfied on our own vehicles.
Q : I hear more and more about " Wear and Tear" Paint
Protection Packages. What is this protection? A
: This is basic coverage to protect your vehicle for the "When’s".
A "WHEN" is not IF the scratch WILL happen but it's a
matter of WHEN the scratch will occur? We protect your vehicle
against the "When’s". This is "WHEN" you get a door
edge chip, "WHEN" you scratch your trunk ledge, "WHEN" you
scrap you heel on the painted door sill and "WHEN" your nails or ring
scratch the paint inside the door handle zone. Or when you load something in
your pickup truck and nick the paint on the bed ledge. We protect your
vehicle against the "WHENS". Pic
Q : Do you offer coverage on door edges and inside door cup areas? A
: Yes, this is part of our 'Wear 'and Tear packages".
The Paint Protection Film door edges look great over the bulky thick
black, clear or chrome plastic covers.
The film is invisible and allows the vehicle's color to shine through
while protecting the door edge. Our door
edges are custom cut to your door. Door
Cup protection insures your ring; finger nails etc. do not scratch the inner
painted door cup area. We offer extreme
and ultimate protection options. 95% of the vehicles we film have at least the
two front door cups protected. Pic
Q : I scuff my heals on the door sills when I get in my
vehicle. Do you offer coverage on door
sills? A
: Yes, this added protection is well worth the investment. This is part of our 'Wear and Tear
package". We have also covered a few plastic sill pieces (Area at
the lower door opening and carpet transition) and stainless steel sill plates
from scratches and abrasion with our Paint Protection Films. We offer two
options; 8 mil clear paint protection film or 13 mil embossed black vinyl. Pic
Q : Do you offer coverage on the rear bumper trunk ledge area? A
: Yes, many clients request this protection to insure their paint does not
get scratched during install/removal of golf clubs, baggage etc. This is
also part of our 'Wear and Tear package". We offer two options; 8mil clear
paint protection film or 3M 13mil embossed black vinyl for that spray on bed
liner look. Pic
Q : Do you offer coverage on the trunk bed rails? A
: Yes, many clients request this protection to insure their paint does not
get scratched during install/removal baggage, golf club bags etc. This is
also part of our 'Wear and Tear package" for trucks. We offer
two options; 8mil clear paint protection film or 3M 13 mil embossed black vinyl
for that spray-on bed liner look. Pic
Q : Can the Paint Protection Film be
removed? A : Yes, The paint protection film is designed
as a semi-permanent application and can be removed if desired. We would
recommend professional removal. For removal of the film, simply heat the
surface to approximately 170°F and begin by working a corner of the film with
your fingernail. After you have enough film to hold onto, pull the film slowly
away from the surface. If any adhesive remains, use automotive grade adhesive
remover (We stock products in our store). After the film is removed, clean
paint with a professional polish followed by sealant/wax. Should new
film need to be installed we use the same process as a new installation.
Q : Will Paint Protection Film damage my factory
paint? A : No, absolutely not. Our Paint Protection
Films are designed to protect your paint, not damage it. OEM’s (original equipment manufacturers)
approve the use of these products and many new vehicles have film installed at
the factory to protect lower doors panels, lower truck beds, behind mud flaps
etc.
Q : What is "Urban" Paint Protection Protection? A : Since our client's
awareness has increased on the benefits of Paint Protection Films. Many
clients are interested in additional protection for doors, rear bumpers and
quarter panels etc. This additional protection (urban protection) is
required for the day to day parking at malls etc. where the vehicle could
get scratched/rubbed from the side or rear of the vehicle. Great
protection for bumper to bumper rub damage.
Q : Do you offer coverage on the rear bumper? A
: Yes, many consider this “urban” protection. On many higher end vehicles we offer a rear
bumper protection. However, more and
more clients have requested rear bumper protection so we are seeing more
patterns available. We can also offer custom installations.
Q : Can I see a edge where the film stops? A : The Paint
Protection Film is 8 thousandths of an inch thick. A slight edge is barely
visible at certain angles. We also recommend bikini cuts for the
hood/fenders which further enhances the invisibility of the edge. There is a
balance between optimum protection and visibility of an edge.
Q : I just can't live with the edge on the hood and fenders;
What are my options? A : For those who
require the ultimate in protection and do not want see an edge we offer full
hood and fender coverage. Also we offer full hood coverage option and bikini
cut fenders which often resolve the edge issue for many clients while keeping
the cost down. We are one of a few installation facilities in
Q : Who makes patterns and which ones should I use for my
vehicle? A : Always review the pattern designs and
pattern options with the installer to determine your protection coverage.
There are many design pattern companies; XPEL, Proform, FirstCut, DD, IP
and Precisioncut. The top two pattern companies, hands down, are XPEL and
Proform. The differences between pattern design houses are: client
service, quality, fitment, patterns offered and coverage protection - number of
pieces to complete the coverage and ability to offer pattern options.
Inferior patterns do not fit quite right, come in multiple pieces and
relief cuts which are simpler and less time consuming to install (less
installed cost) however the draw backs are numerous: increased film edges,
butted film at relief cuts which poor protection and sub par fitment - gaps and
less protection. We only use XPEL, Proform, DD and IP patterns.
These are all laser cut at our facility.
Q : I have an aftermarket bumper, hood, can you cover this? A : Typically yes, we offer custom
installations. We can develop a pattern specific for your coverage needs.
We would need to see the project to determine the viability and to
provide an estimate. Refer to our page: "Other
Uses"
Q : Will there be a two-tone effect when the film is ever
removed? A : No, the
latest paint protection films are UV stabilized and new paints today offer
greater UV protection so the underlying paint will not fade. The
unprotected paint as well as the paint protection films should be regularly
washed and waxed/sealed and there would be no indication that film was ever
installed. That being said, we may recommend a full machine polish to
remove any micro marring, swirling etc. on the unprotected paint to match the
superior gloss of the paint finish under the removed film. We offer these
services to our clients during the removal process. We also sell these products should the client
which to perform the removal and polishing function.
Q : Can I have the Paint Protection Film installed on my repainted (respray) bumper and/or hood, etc. ? A : Yes, paint curing time depends on numerous factors, including the type of paint, the temperature catalyst, the temperature reducer and the type of drying method that was used. We always recommend using a professional body shop and let them know you plan to install Paint Protection Film. All repainted parts should be removed from the vehicle to allow painting the complete part and have them fully keyed and primed in accordance to OEM requirements. Factory finishes are baked onto the surface at 350+ degrees which allows a much harder surface and better cohesion bond. Repainted surfaces can be baked only at 150 degrees to prevent damage to the vehicles components.
The minimum time we would
recommend to have Paint Protection Film installed is 30 days to ensure any residual gassing out is complete alleviating
the risk of bubbles forming under the film. Some body shops recommend up
to 90 days for full paint cure. If a vehicle is in an environment
that is cooler than 55 degrees F, the curing process essentially stops and will
not resume until the temperature goes above the 55 F mark. If the paint
is not fully cured, and film is applied, out gassing will occur under the film.
Refer to Pic.
Please note some film manufacturers do not recommend their film be used on repaints. 3M, Nano Fusion, and XPEL films do not have these restrictions as long as the proper painting guidelines are followed for repainting automotive components.
Q : Do I need to prep the vehicle before installation? A : No special prep is required. We ask that your vehicle be
completely washed and remove excessive dirt, debris or bugs. An
additional charge may apply if excessive cleaning is required.
Q : I have a few paint chips can you apply the film to these areas? A : Yes - we recommend at least 48 hours for
these areas to cure. Touched-up chip areas have no firm paint adhesion and
there is always some risk the paint plug may not adhere in the repaired area
while the film is being installed. That being said, we have
been successful with a few special techniques to prevent paint lift on
chip repaired areas. We make no guarantee however we make ever effort to
install the film over these locations without removal of the paint plug. For
the best results, let us inspect the paint before the chips are
repaired. Should the film be installed over the paint plug
successfully at the time the film is removed the paint plug may not stay
adhered. There is no installation warranty coverage should the film lift a paint
plug.
Q : Can I install a Paint Protection Film kit
myself? A : Many clients are able to install flat pieces however 98% of the kits, a
one time installer would likely ruin the film. For a professional
installation we recommend your kit be installed by a Certified Professional
Installer. A Certified Professional Installer would also provide a
manufacturer and installation warranty. Please also review Purchasing
Paint Protection Kits Online should
you consider purchasing a kit.
Q : Can you apply Paint Protection Film to plastic? A : Yes. We cover cell phone, smart phones and tablet backs,
laptops.
Q : Can you apply Paint Protection Film to glass? A : Yes. We cover cell phone, smart and tablet screens, vehicle and
marine navigation screens and glass commercial glass counter tops.
Q : Can you apply Paint Protection Film to chrome? A : Yes. We have paint protection film which will work chrome
plated plastic and metal parts.
Q : Can you apply Paint Protection Film stainless steel? A : Yes. The film looks great on
all brushed or polished aluminum and stainless steel parts. Stop by the shop
and we can apply a sample piece.
Q : I have heard some vehicles are offered in a painted matte
finish - is there paint protection film for painted matte finishes? A : Yes. We call this “Stealth Film". This film is perfect for clear bra protection
over painted matte finishes, matte vinyl raining stripes and matte vehicle
wraps. The stealth film protects without gloss and is great for race
cars, hot rods, customs and exotic factory paints. We can even apply to
gloss paint for a retro Matt look.
Q : What about wax build up along the seam and how can I avoid
it? A : There are many professional sealants which do
NOT leave residue, so this issue can be eliminated. We can assist in the proper selection of
waxes/sealants. However, some
waxes/sealants will leave a white line on the seam. We recommend a light wipe movement in the
direction of the edge with an automotive grade micro fiber. We recommend not waxing "into" the
seams but 90 degrees across them. Never apply a concentrated rubbing action
at the seam edges as this may groove the paint/gel coat and would be unnoticed
until the film is removed. We provide
each of our clients a Maintenance
& Care Flyer with specific
recommendations and products to use on the films.
Q : What do the VW and Land Rover Certified OEM Installer Logos on
our website mean? A : Volkswagen and Land Rover
have OEM (original equipment manufacturer) paint protection packages offered
via the dealerships and are installed either by employees at the dealership or
contracted out to a paint protection film installation facility.
Automotive Candystore completed hands on and exam training to
qualify as a VW and Land Rover Certified OEM Installer.
Q : Should I purchase clear bra from my car dealership? A : While buying products directly from the
dealership at the time of vehicle purchase has its benefits, i.e., the costs
can be included in the financing, some believe it is the only way to get the
product, they will get a warranty, some believe it is just easier, and
finally, some believe the cost will be about the same so they might as well
just get it all at the same time and from the same location. While many of these reasons are correct, here
are some other issues you should consider:
· Many dealerships try to install film with their current employees and as
such may not meet the clients’ quality standards.
· Should you wish to use a dealership to install your clear bra insure they
are using a certified installer which is experienced, reputable, offers both a
manufacture's and installation warranty.
· Dealerships may use least cost films and kit designs. The kits are
preset, no coverage options and offer minimal coverage which often miss the
critical protection areas.
· Dealerships may not provide you with a manufacture's warranty card or
offer no installation warranty.
· Dealerships may charge an absorbent cost for the clear bra, knowing the
clear bra will be included in your vehicles' purchase.
· Dealerships want to get the job done quickly and as inexpensively as
possible in order to get the car out the door. This benefits the dealership
and not the client. For more information refer to the question: Why
is there a difference in cost between installers? “
Q: Lexus and
Q : Why are our prices slightly higher than others? A : We truly believe you get what you pay for. Our prices are based on the use of highly experienced
installers, top-quality films, superior pattern design, job complexity, fair
labor costs, and attention to details so your vehicle looks its best. We
work one-on-one with our clients to tailor-fit their coverage requirements. Other shops often rely on limited experience,
non-certified installers, inferior films, poorly designed kits and low pricing
to obtain customers.
Q : The standard Paint Protection Kit ( partial hood/fenders,
mirrors and front bumper) is too expensive for my vehicle, Are there any
other options? A: Please keep in mind
that Paint Protection kits are a
relativity small investment compared to the cost of purchasing a new
vehicle. It truly will begin to pay for
itself immediately.
Since we cut our film patterns
onsite for each project we can cut and install patterns ala kart. So we
can install the bumper kit so give you the biggest protection for the price and
should you require additional coverage we would be happy to install those
pieces at a later date. Note: some times
the cost may be slightly higher for individual pieces due to the economics of
scale - film plotting and nesting of the pattern parts.
Q : Would it been less expensive
to repaint the front of the vehicle” than install a clear bra? A: Many vehicle owners believe the cost of a repaint is
less than the installation of a clear bra. This is
just not true and still be able maintain the original vehicle look and fit. Let
me address two scenarios:
1. You may save some money if
you repaint the bumper/hood while the parts are still on the vehicle. However,
this is not the recommended method of repaint and many body shops will not
warranty this type of work. The paint will not hold up as well since the prep
and respray does not cover the complete part (edges, hidden painted section,
etc.). Upon inspection many would know the vehicle was repainted leaving a
prospective buyer weary, not knowing if the vehicle was in an accident or just
repainted. Many owners, depending on the vehicle, will bypass the
insurance company and repaint a vehicle out of pocket so no one will know the
vehicle was repainted or possibly even repaired AND the work will not show up
on a Car Fax report...
2. You will not save any money
for a professional repaint which includes removal of parts to be prepared, sprayed
and reinstalled. You will need to drop
your vehicle off for 3 to 5 days and address any other issues which may arise. Many owners will bypass the insurance company
and repaint a vehicle out of pocket so no one will know the vehicle was
repainted or possibly even repaired AND the work will not show up on a Car Fax
report... Do you want to purchase your
next used vehicle knowing it was repainted or would you continue looking for
one you know was NOT repainted – for whatever reason?
Q : Why is there a difference in cost between installation facilities? A :
There are five factors which affect the overall cost of a paint
protection film installation: experience, film, pattern design, coverage
and installation location. Consider all these issues when deciding on an installation
shop.
1. Experience:
The installation of paint protection films is a trade, through experience and training you gain the knowledge and understanding on how to install kits properly. A Certified Professional Installer - are professionals that install Paint Protection kits for a living - it is not a sideline. These installers have been trained and approved by film/design houses, they have a full understanding of the pattern design criteria and how it is intended to fit and look on each respective vehicle. Each pattern design house has nuances and a Certified Professional Installer has a full understanding of design criteria which will make for a better installation and fitment.
Would you want an installer who does installations on a part-time basis or one who doesn’t want to be certified/trained working on your vehicle?
Do you want your paint protection film cut directly on the vehicle when the fitment is poor or does not use a pre-cut pattern? I certainly do not.
Experience, skill and knowledge by a Certified professional Installer, plus the cleanliness of the installation area, shop ethics, and a warranty over and above the film manufacturer’s warranty, is what every client should expect and get. Do not assume a shop in business for 10 or 15 years has 10 or 15 years of expertise. Also many film manufacturers will not warranty their product unless the installation is performed by a manufacturer's certified installer.
We are Certified Professional Installers for the following films: 3M, Ventureshield, Defendzall, Nano Fusion and XPEL films. Remember the key to a great fitment vs. poor fitment is the “Installation” - you pay for this expertise along with high-end pattern design and film type. There is no excuse for poor workmanship, installers not trained and certified will install paint protection film without your high standards in mind, and many do not even know what a professional installation looks like. No client should accept a poor installation! Competitors Workmanship
2. Pattern Design:
Compare apples to apples on your pattern coverage’s vs. cost. In many cases, the patterns do not fit properly or are piece-meal (numerous parts for ease installation at the expense of looks). These patterns can involve trimming and cutting with razor blades. This leads to poor coverage (protection). Many of these patterns are great for the entry level installer at the sacrifice of the client’s coverage and fitment. Many new installers entering the market trying to supplement their income using free patterns rather than investing in top of the line pattern design company(s).
3. Coverage:
Understand how much coverage (protection) is being offered? Is the bumper coverage fender to fender or pure frontal coverage? Is the hood really protected in the right places? We offer optional coverage patterns for the hood, fenders, bumpers, a-pillars, rockers, splash areas, roof, etc? We offer hood kits coverage options from 6”, 12”, 18”, 24”, and 30” to full hood protection. We offer an option to (wrap) hide edge lines on hoods, fenders and bumpers. We also offer removal of emblems, headlight washers, tow hook covers, and grills etc. so there are no visual edges around these components. Great option since it eliminates edges and looks the best. We design a protection package for your vehicle.
4. Installation location:
Do you want your
installation in a dirty body shop bay or a dusty/sandy garage with poor
lighting? These locations lead to excess debris under the film and poor
installations. We install your kit in our certified air conditioned
installation facility with lighting brightness equal to a hockey rink. This
allows us to install paint protection films virtually debris free leading to
cleaner installations.
5. Type of Film Used
How you drive, your local climate,
paint color, paint surface texture and budget will affect film choice. Some
films perform better in one climate than another.s The vehicles' paint
texture may lend itself to a specific film choice. We will work to
determine the best film for your needs. We always recommend dark colored
vehicles use the "Premium Top Coat Finish".
Note: In Florida, the love bug enzymes attack the paint and etch the surface.
We highly recommend the 3M, Nano Fusion and XPEL Ultimate
films for Florida residents for the highest level of durability and least maintenance
during the seasonal love bug attacks - these products is great all around
the country!
Non-Coated Films
“Non-Coated” is manufactured with one layer of urethane and does not have a top coat or hard coat finish. These films will have a paper liner. This type of film has longevity issues a wear and tear perspective. (Staining, discoloration, dulling and abrasion etc.) These films require increased maintenance. We recommend these films for fleet vehicles and not recommended for daily drivers. This film is what is currently installed as factory OEM materials on lower body panels etc.
Coated Films
“Standard Top Coat Finish” is manufactured with coated layer over the base urethane film. These films will have a paper liner. This type of film offers a balance between visual appeal, maintenance and cost. These films require additional maintenance over “Premium Top Coat and Clear Coat Finish” films.
Premium Top Coated Films
"Premium Top Coat
Finish" is manufactured with denser urethane infused coating. These
films usually have a plastic liner (more expensive to manufacturer). This
film offers no orange peel with superior clarity. This film is offered
for the most discriminate client. Offers ease of maintenance, cleaning
plus high gloss and improved invisibility.
Clear Coated Finish
“Clear Coat Finish” is
manufactured with hard coated layer over the base urethane film (similar to the
clear coat on your vehicle’s paint). These films will have a paper liner.
This film offers ease of maintenance and cleaning. This film is durable, high
gloss for an overall daily driver.
Q : I here the term orange peel, what does this mean? A :
Orange peel varies from film to film. In
general, the amount of orange peel is directly proportionate with the texture
of the liner the material is laminated to. We take into consideration the
amount of orange peel naturally present in the paint on the car when
recommending a film to our client. A vehicle with perfectly smooth show
quality paint, you will want a film that has no orange peel of its own.
Otherwise, your perfect paint job will no longer look perfect. If it has
some orange peel, then you probably won't notice the orange peel in the film
much because it will blend in with the background. How you drive, your
local climate, paint color and budget will also affect the film choice.
We will work to determine the best film for your needs.
Q : What else can be protected with paint protection film? A : Please refer to "Other
Uses". If it's Painted...Protect it!
Q : What about purchasing a kit on eBay or another on-line
internet site? A : There are
$20.00 vinyl kits sold on eBay and other internet sites which are not Paint
Protection Film - it's vinyl cast material. These products are not
designed to stop rocks or road debris. They will not hold up long term,
no warranty and in many cases will damage (bonds to paint) and fades the paint
similar to a vinyl bra. Many sites sell paint protection films with
inferior patterns which have poor fitment, alignment and many relief cuts for
ease of install - this saves on film and makes it easy to install while sacrificing
coverage. You usually get what you pay for. Also review Purchasing
Paint Protection Kits Online should you consider installing the kit
yourself.
Q : Can Paint Protection Film be applied over graphics? A : The Paint Protection Film will not interfere with vinyl or
painted graphics and is designed to match the gloss levels of today's
automotive factory clear coat paint systems, providing virtually invisible
protection. Should the paint protection film be removed, the underlying
graphic may be lifted during the film removal process. Some patterns have
“with” and “without” decals patterns should the client request this option. Examples
are patterns with and without coverage are the racing strips on a 2010 Dodge
Challenger SRT8.
We now offer "Matte" Stealth Paint Protection
Film for matt surfaces - this is also great protection for the matt racing
stripes.
Q : Can I just use a vinyl bra to protect my paint? A : Vinyl auto bras are good way to protect your vehicle – short
term. What many fail to realize is when using a vinyl bra, it’s essential that
you do not leave it on for long periods of time for a number of reasons: the
paint will fade underneath the bra, dirt, dust and sand slowly accumulate under
the bra and slowly sand and abrade the paint. When water is added into
the equation, the moist dirt can quickly lead to oxidation, mildew, and all
sorts of other unwanted paint problems. The best option for the
automotive enthusiast is to have a clear bra paint protection film. The
film does not rub up against your vehicle, it prevents damage from rocks,
insects, paint fade and does not threaten your paint, it's removable and
follows the contours of your vehicle so the vehicle looks great!. Plus it
improves your gas mileage over the wind resistance of a black vinyl bra.
We can offer you a vinyl bra as an alternative. Vinyl

Q : Can I just use a magnetic bra to protect my paint? A : Magnetic sign material is NOT recommended for horizontal
painted surfaces which can reach temperatures of 150 degrees or higher.
Long-term use on surfaces frequently exposed to sunlight (such as vehicles) can
result in uneven fading of the surface similar to vinyl bras. The magnetic bras
need to be removed often to clean and reapply paint sealant. Magnetic
bras should not be installed on newly painted surfaces. The material does
not conform to fenders and nor does it stick to bumpers or aluminum parts. You
can learn more about magnetic bras by googling: "care and maintenance of
magnetic signs". You will also come to the conclusion magnetic bra
is not a good option for protection your investment. The best
option for the automotive enthusiast is to have a "clear bra" paint
protection film. The film does not rub up against your vehicle, it prevents
damage from rocks, insects, paint fade and does not threaten your paint, it's
removable and follows the contours of your vehicle so the vehicle looks
great! Magnetic

"Appearance Protection Products" for the painted surfaces -
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We have numerous calls each week from customers who
are purchasing, or have already purchased, a new vehicle and the dealership is
offering "Appearance Protection Products" - most dealers refer
these as paint protection with costs ranging from $300 to $1,400.
The customers contacts us and wants to know if we have heard about these
products and how compare to our paint protection products.
The dealerships claim their "Appearance
Protection Products" will not oxidize or fade the paint, no paint
corrosion, discoloration caused by bird droppings or tree sap, acid rain, water
spotting, industrial fallout and insect damage during the warranty period of
the product. First, these products are mostly a form of insurance for your
vehicle which can cover exterior paint, interior cloth and leather surfaces,
glass to tire and rims, etc. Should these items become damaged (as outlined in
the warranty information) the dealership will make (replace or repair) in
accordance with the warranty.
I strongly urge each customer to fully read the
warranty, disclaimers and ongoing maintenance which may be required to insure
your warranty is in force and may include additional payments throughout the
warranty period. Also, do a search on Google (or similar search engine)
and review the comments on automotive forums. This information should
help to put things in perspective.
I will hold my discussion to painted surfaces.

Headlight Protection Film - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q : Can you cover my headlights, blinkers and fog lights with the
Paint Protection Film? A : Yes, clear
headlight protection will not diminish the lights output and will not alter
your vehicles appearance – in fact it will make your vehicle look better since
you will not have weathering and abrasion taking place on the lens surfaces.
If you are a frequent freeway driver, the protection is a
necessity. We have lens patterns (headlight, blinkers, fogs etc.)
for most vehicles. We also provide "headlight" specific films to
protection against breakage and sand abrasion while adding high clarity and
scratch resistance.
Q : Can Paint Protection Films protect headlight lens from
weathering? A : Yes, in a recent test by a
film manufacturer installed paint protection film on a set of new SUV
headlights and was removed after 20 months in
In cases where the headlight surfaces are already
fogged, hazed or crazed from weathering, the installation of Paint Protection
Film restores the surface to extreme clarity, improving headlight brilliance
and focus. It was amazing to see this phenomenon. Many clients have the film
installed on their headlights to avoid having to buy and install new expensive
headlights. Please stop by our store and inspect our sample headlight
with the film applied to a portion of a weathered lens. We also offer
12mil, 17mil, 30 mil and 40 mil headlight films.
Q : Can Paint Protection Films protect aftermarket lens? A : Yes. Depending on the light output (bulb wattage which
directly corresponds to heat output) and the type of light housing we
would recommend headlight specific material options. Our
personal vehicle has 100 watt and 130 watt fog and driving lights with the
30 mil clear headlight protection film and looks like-new condition after 5
years. Please understand we will not warranty headlight material against
overheating with high output bulbs or aftermarket bulbs.
Marine Protection Films - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q : Can we use Paint Protection Film for marine applications? A : Yes, Great for bow protections and rub/abrasion areas.
The film does not adhere to marine board or materials with a
textured surface. We do not recommend any films on walk area zones since the
films are slippery or areas which are submerged in water all the time.
Fresh and saltwater environments can wreak havoc on any surface; therefore we
offer no material or installation warranty for marine applications. Paint
protection film will offer better protection than not having any film at
all. We also offer our thicker 30 and 40 mil film for special marine
uses.
Underwater (submerged) applications: There may be
microbial growth over time which can penetrate the adhesive layer. Should
microbial growth not be an issue, the film will
offer abrasion protection for underwater (submerged) applications.
We recommend paint protection film for hull protection limited
to boats on trailers and personal watercraft.
Above the waterline applications: The film
will provide protection both inside and outside the vessel. Also consider
protection on your trailer.
Q : Is there special maintenance and care for Paint Protection
Films used in marine applications? A : For all
marine applications we recommend a fresh water rinse. There are no set
recommendations on frequency of sealing the film. We recommend Vitreo or
XPEL PPF Sealant be applied for protection and durability.
Windshield
Tear offs - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q : How is Windshield Tear Offs installed? A : The process is quite similar to the installation window tint however
the film is thicker and more difficult to install.
Q : How
do I care for the Windshield Tear Offs? A :
Always use washer fluid when cleaning the windshield with wipers. Do not run
the windshield wipers dry, as dry debris on the wipers can scratch the film.
Normal automotive grade soaps for washing and drying is acceptable which would
include cleaning each of the wiper blade rubber/silicone blades. Also to
improve the longevity and water sheeting ability of the film apply an acrylic
sealant to the hard SR coating. Avoid car washes that use heavy
degreasers/acid washes which can shorten the life of the film. Clean
Windshield Tear Offs regularly to remove staining items such
as tree sap, bird droppings, tar, oils and bugs. Avoid using any cleaning
solutions that contain petroleum distillates, alcohol, and silicone oils or
like ingredients.
Q : Is
Windshield Tear Offs a permanent application? A :
No. The film protects the windshield from harsh conditions that often break or
chip the windshield. The Windshield Tear Offs should occasionally be
replaced to provide the best protection for the windshield. The need and timing
to replace the film is dependent upon the miles driven and the conditions in
which those miles are accumulated.
Q : How
is the Windshield Tear Offs replaced? A :
Windshield Tear Offs use a complex adhesive to keep the
Windshield Tear Offs adhered to the windshield, However the adhesive is
not permanent. When the Windshield Tear Offs requires
replacement, it can be removed by lifting up one corner of the film and then,
by pulling the film with constant pressure. Any adhesive remaining is removed
with soap and water.
Q :
What products should not be used on the Windshield Tear Offs? A :
We recommend no water-repelling chemicals, solvents or abrasive polishes. Avoid
using any cleaning solutions that contain petroleum
Q : Why
is there sometimes a rainbow effect while looking through the windshield? A :
While wearing polarized sunglasses, sometimes there is a possibility under
certain conditions (bright sunlight and the angle of the sun to your
windshield), you may see a “corona” effect. This slight “corona” effect is
visible as a prism, or rainbow of colors. If you find this minimal “corona”
effect impairs your vision while driving, remove the Windshield Tear Offs immediately.
