The application of paint protection films involves explicit preparation of the car's surface, under proper conditions, for precise placement and flawless fitment.  Factory Trained Certified Professional Installers have the proper tools, maintain controlled conditions, understand the types of film properties, and the experience in the application of specific paint protection film kit design.  Having a Trained Certified Professional Installer insures the best results, maximum invisibility, proper fitment and they are able to offer many coverage options.  Most importantly, you will have a manufacturer  and installation warranty, plus "piece of mind" knowing the kit was installed properly with no damage to your paint.

1. Many online companies may mislead the customer in thinking they have a manufacturer's warranty.  Only a Certified Professional Installer can offer a manufacturer's warranty.  What is a Certified Profesional Installer?  This is an installer who has taken manufacturer's technical training and usually has the ability to computer cut kits in house.  The training includes detailed courses, a written and hands on exam to insure their ability to install the film properly and understands the properties of the specific films and the designers pattern nuances.  All Certified Professional Installers are listed on the respective manufacturers’ website, and are able to offer and/or handle warranty claims.

2. Many online companies will locate a Certified Professional Installer in your area AFTER you purchase the Paint Protection Film kit from them.   A word of caution: Many cases a Certified Professional Installer will NOT install a mail order or a precut kit, and if they elect to will not offer any warranty on the installation or product. Should any part not fit or become unusable, the customer will be liable for the replacement piece. Always check to insure you have a Certified Professional Installer who will install a mail order kit before you buy it online.

3. Who manufacturer's paint protection film?  There are many manufacturers’ which claim to have paint protection film, or call their product paint protection film, which in fact are not.  Some do not have manufacturers labeling on the backing material and many products are just a vinyl material which is an inferior product and not designed or tested for impact protection. Many of these look a likes can cause paint problems, i.e., adhesive bonding to paint, hard removal, discoloration of paint under the film, fading under the film.  Always use genuine paint protection film which has undergone extensive testing.

4. What is the age of the paint protection film?  If you purchase a kit online likely you will not know the age of the film.  Old film can lead to film lifting and poor adhesion.   Lifting and poor adhesion are not covered under any manufacturers’ warranty so the installer bears this risk, or passes the risk on to the customer.  This is one of the reasons why a Certified Installers may NOT install mail order precut kits.

5. Has the film been properly stored?  Improper storage of paint protection film may lead to defects in the adhesive which leads to poor installation. This is another reason why a Certified Installer may NOT install mail order or precut kits.

6. Has the precut kit been cut with an overused/dull blade, improper cutting settings used, improper blade depth or not weeding directly after the kit was cut?   All these conditions could lead to the removal of adhesive at the kit’s cut edge and may lead to poor adhesion on the painted surface.  An improperly weeded kit may also lead to poor adhesion at the edge of the film.  This is another reason why a Certified Installer may NOT install mail order or precut kits.

7. Paint protection kit fit properly?  Many internet companies offer poor kit designs since they kits at no cost to the seller.   Internet companies sell kits with numerous pieces (piece-meal, so the installation is easier) the downside is there are more edges and relief cuts which lead to increased film visibility, less overall coverage and does not have a clean factory look.  These kits use several pieces so the pieces can be positioned to use the least amount of film during the plotting of the kit.  Sounds good until you consider they are sacrificing quality, fitment and overall look of the film by literally "cutting corners".  A kit that fits improperly leads to poor alignment hurts the paint protection industry as a whole, and worst of all, a disappointed customer.

8. Does the kit offer adequate paint protection coverage?  Many kits offer limited coverage, less material being used, charge less and offer no additional coverage options.  As a Certified Professional Installer we cut our kits onsite offering the client various options (extended coverage’s, wrapping, etc.) which are not available through mail-order companies.

Conclusion:  Each of these points are a liability issue for the installer.  Many Certified Professional Installers do not want to risk their reputation on kits provided by the client.  When the installer has control of the product, coverage, coverage options, kit fitment and his ability to cut the kit in house, the Certified Installation Facility can offer the best installation and fitment for the client.   The client loses if they install the kit improperly or have a non-certified installer perform the installation… in the end; the client is not pleased with the outcome.
