Q: What is a Commercial Vehicle (mobile) Wrap? A : A Commercial Vehicle Wrap is a visual advertising megaphone, getting your brand out loud and clear!! You want to be noticed! You want to be talked about! You want to be remembered!
Vehicle wraps are moving billboards which are visible while you drive and when you are parked - they work all the time. Vehicle Wraps is the common description for graphics which are applied to cars, vans, trucks, buses or boats or any other vehicle as either a form of mobile advertising or customizing a vehicle to enhance its appearance giving it a personal flair. Some other related terms are car wraps, van wraps, bus wraps, truck wraps, trailer wraps, boat wraps, commercial wraps, vinyl wraps, trailer graphics or truck side graphics.
Vehicle graphics can be applied to the entire vehicle or parts of the vehicle hence the terminology; full wraps or partial wraps. The best distance to view a wrap is from 10 -12 feet away where you can see the entire advertising message at once. The message you convey will be understood when viewed within a 3 to 5 sec time frame.
Yell loud!!! Yell for a Vehicle Wrap!
Vehicle Wrap (vinyl wrap) consists of a design which is developed by our design staff, then printed on special vinyl wrap, laminated, and finally installed or “wrapped” on a vehicle. The wrap is applied directly to the vehicle. Add perforated vinyl for your windows. This allows the message to be printed across a larger area which means a larger megaphone!.
Q: What’s involved in a Vinyl Wrap? A: Vinyl wraps, including trailer, bus, truck, boats, ATV's and fleet wraps, are comprised of five (5) phases.
The first phase is the setup/scope which includes: inspection, getting accurate measurements of the item to be wrapped. We utilize professional vehicle templates or design our own templates which allow us to accurately develop a proposal. We also determine if the client has ready to print artwork and the client’s time frame for completion.
One approved, the second phase is a consultation in which we will gather as much information about your company (business cards, brochures, websites, stationary, business colors etc.) and your advertising message you are trying to convey and the type of images you want to portray. This meeting is crucial in the development of an effective design concept. Should you not have a clue as to what you want; our designer can take the reigns and design a bright, eye-catching wrap that will remembered on the streets.
The third phase is graphic design. This usually takes about three to five hours to complete and is charged according to our hourly rate which includes a few revisions. All we need from you is a vector version of your logo, phone numbers, web address, and some hi-res photos that you would like to incorporate into the design. But don’t worry if you can’t supply us with photos, etc. We have a library of photography with images for all types of industries. This phase includes final proof approval.
The fourth phase is the production phase where the graphic is printed and laminated to protect the vinyl.
The fifth phase is installation where the vinyl is actually applied to your vehicle. We request the vehicle be completely washed (we will provide full instructions) and once the vehicle is fully dried we begin the prep and installation.
Q: Why a Vehicle Wrap over other forms of advertising (billboards, newspaper, mail flyers, and magazines or on TV)? A: Combine the total cost your company spends on advertising each year and compare those costs to a vehicle wrap.
Examples of other advertising mediums:
Average wrap prices range from $2200 to $3500 for a five (5) year advertisement. Broken down, you would spend $37 to $59 per month for what is essentially a rolling billboard. Turn your gas dollars into advertising dollars! In addition, there are no monthly fees or maintenance/renewal charges. When you drive, you advertise! When you are stopped, you advertise! and When you are parked, you advertise!
Every traffic jam becomes a marketing opportunity
Mobile advertising reaches customers not exposed to the newspaper or television
Vehicle wrapping takes on a new life of its own by incorporating the specific body type of the chosen vehicle. Every single design, when applied to several different vehicle bodies, produces several different impressions because of the unique 3D surface the vehicle wrap is showcased on. You can remove the wrap material and your vehicle will look like it came off the showroom floor - ready for a higher resale.
Q: Why should you wrap my vehicle instead of painting or vinyl cut lettering? A: A wrapped vehicle grabs your attention. Painting will decrease the value of your vehicle and vinyl cut lettering is dull, no pop and no excitement and is more difficult to remove. When the lettering is removed, you will be left with ghosting which is due to the paint fade. Wrapping your vehicle protects your paint, increases resale and your vehicle will look showroom clean and attract attention which equates to business leads and increased profits for your business.
Q: What is vinyl cut lettering? A: Each letter is contour cut from a solid vinyl color and applied to your vehicle. Vinyl cut lettering option is a less expensive alternative however cut letters do not have that powerhouse "Grab You - Look At Me - Remember Me - eye catching excitement" most businesses want to supercharge their business. Vinyl lettering is like a business card - you have stop and take time to read it. The biggest bang for the buck is a Vehicle Wrap - EXCITEMENT IN THE MESSAGE.
Visual impact and impressions are reduced with lettering and graphics over a full color Vehicle Wrap.
Bottom line: Vehicle Wraps are the most cost effective marketing tool over radio, TV, newspaper and bland vinyl lettering and decals. When you want your business to grow, be noticed and request a Vehicle Wrap.
YOUR BIGGEST BANG FOR YOUR ADVERTISING DOLLAR IS FULL COLOR VEHICLE WRAPS. PERIOD.
Q: Do you install vinyl cut lettering? A: Yes, we cut and install vinyl lettering, spot graphics, window graphics and also design, print and install full color laminated wrapping vinyl, print color contour graphics, canvas prints, presentation boards, signage and clear wraps - paint protection film.
Q: I have a fleet of vehicles and want to stand out from my competition? A: We have a great solution - brand your vehicles with a unique defining color. You may have a unique color scheme and repainting is not an option since you will lose resale value. Let us paint wrap your vehicle with choice of over seventy (70) different colors and have your vehicle back on the road in less time than repainting.
Q: Does a vehicle have to be a certain color to work with my Vehicle Wrap? A: Generally, no. A Vehicle Wrap covers almost all the painted surfaces of a vehicle. Areas such as chrome bumpers, grilles and trim and roofs are generally not covered. Therefore, color generally does not matter. That being said, should you have a choice, choose black.
Q: What if I want my Vehicle Wrap to be visible at night? A: We can add reflective vinyl to the wrap. This option allows the graphic advertisement to standout in the limited lighted and dark areas.
Q: How is a Vehicle Wrap printed? A: Our onsite printing staff ensures the accurate transfer of the images to our "state of the art" large format digital latex printer to insure the best color schemes, durability and resolution available in the industry with no solvents. We carefully chose the media we print on, which has been time tested for use in vehicle wraps.
Q: How do you prepare the vehicle for a Vehicle Wrap? A: Yes, we want the client to take a pro-active roll in prepping the vehicle for the installation of the vehicle wrap. All vehicles have to be free of dust, mud, wax, oil, armor-all type products, tire gels and other greasy agents paying attention to the body seam, lower under panels, door, hood and fuel door openings. Please understand we are not a detailing shop however should you wish to just drop off the vehicle "as is" we certainly accommodate you. Clearshield Protection will still do extensive chemical prep to the vehicle to ensure it is ready for the vehicle wrap.
Q: Does a Vehicle Wrap look like a paint job? A: Yes, when you look at a vehicle wrap from 5 feet away it will look like paint. Plus some real benefits are the vehicle is protected from the elements and is completely removable.
Q: How do I wash my newly wrapped vehicle? A: It is best to hand wash and use a quality sealant every few months for added protection. In general, avoid power washing, power brushes and automatic car washes. The use of a rear defroster will cause no damage to your window wrap. Should we wrap your rear window with a wiper we recommend not using the rear wiper as the blade may damage the graphics over time? (We ask the client if they would want the wiper blade removed)
Q: Can the Vehicle Wrap applied to windows? A: Yes, for safety reasons the front windshield and front driver and passenger windows are not able to be covered. Rear windshield and rear windows on passenger and driver side doors can normally have vinyl graphics. Window wraps are printed on a perforated vinyl and laminated. Lamination costs a little more, however for safety reasons it allows the driver to see through the windows in the rain plus adds additional protection to the graphic. You can choose laminated or un-laminated perforated vinyl dependent on your application.
Q: What if the company information on my Vehicle Wrap changes? A: We can usually update the wrap without full printing which saves money and time.
Q: Can a Vehicle Wrap be removed? A: Yes. The Vehicle Wrap can be removed. We suggest having our professionals remove your Vehicle Wrap as our installation experts are best equipped to handle this task.
Q: Will the Vehicle Wrap damage my paint? A: No. A Vehicle Wrap, when applied and removed correctly, does not damage your car's OEM paint. In fact, it protects your paint and adds value to your vehicle.
Q: Is there a installation warranty on the Vehicle Wrap? A: We offer a 12 month installation warranty plus the material manufacturer provides it's warranty. We will also provide left over scrap materials from the installation should you require a repair in the future.
Q: What are the art work requirements? A: Acceptable digital print file types include 300 dpi high-resolution .PSD, .AI, .EPS, and .PDF formats. Please note that most web images are unacceptable for high-resolution prints. Logos or images taken from a website look great on screen, but won’t work for large-format printing. Vector files such as adobe illustrator can scale to any size with no loss of quality.
Q: What if I don’t have any high resolution artwork? A: High-resolution artwork is available and can be purchased through various sources. We utilize several websites that provide high resolution artwork and images like Shutterstock, Photobucket, istockphoto. High resolution artwork can also be obtained through the corporate office of most franchises. We will assist you in the design of your wrap from concept to completion.
Q: What are the requirements for solid-color / cut vinyl images? A: Vector or line-art file types that may NOT incur any additional artwork setup fees include .AI, .EPS, and .PDF. However, saving a .JPEG, .BMP, etc. as one of these file types may require an additional art charge to vectorize.
Q: How long will a Vehicle Wrap last on my vehicle? A: In Florida, you can expect your Vehicle Wrap to last 3 to 5 years. The longevity is dependent on the environment and how you care for your wrap.
Q: Can you install a Vehicle Wrap over rust and dents? A: Rust will need to be removed prior to a wrap installation. Should you require the wrap to cover a rusted area there would be no warranty in these areas. Dents can be wrapped as long as the paint is intact and no surface rust has formed.
Q: Should I bring my vehicle/truck/boat in for quote? A: Yes. Most importantly this allows the client meet our staff and facilities and allows us to discuss your thoughts and ideas while we inspect the area to be wrapped, vehicle and the paint i.e. painted mirrors, handles, door guards etc., Clearshield utilizes a software program of most standard production run cars, trucks, vans, and trailers. This program will be used to design the wrap so accurate measurements will need to be taken prior to production of the wrap. These measurements in most cases assist in project cost reduction.
Q: How much does a Commercial Vehicle Wrap cost? A: Great question! We get asked this question at least 5 times a day. Each Vehicle Wrap is unique. There are several factors to consider: design, materials (includes vinyl, lamination and masking), print, vehicle prep, installation, final quality control, vehicle size, vehicle complexity, vehicle coverage and type of vehicle play a part in cost. In general, vehicles with compound-curves, or indention's, like a Volkswagen Bug, Chrysler PT Cruiser or Chevrolet HHR are more difficult thus more expensive to wrap than a box van with flat surfaces. Other issues to consider:
Q: How long does it take to install a Vehicle Wrap? A: Our Vehicle Wraps installations are typically installed in one (1) to three (3) days, depending on vehicle size, weather and intricacy of the wrap. The vehicle needs to be properly prepped and brought to temperature INDOORS in a temperature controlled facility.
Time estimates are given to our customers prior to start of the job. The design and proof time frame typically ranges from one (1) to two (2) days dependent on the design requirements, revisions, etc. Overall project completion averages two (2) to five (5) business days.
Q: What can cause a Vehicle Wrap to fail? A:
Q: Do you wrap anything other than vehicles? A: Yes. We wrap cranial band/helmets, trailers, boats, jet ski’s, motorcycles, buildings, storefronts, interior walls, trade show walls, appliances, laptops, bicycles, chairs, tables.
Q: Do you offer a warranty? A: Yes, As the industry's gold standard for more than 30 years, the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty gives professionals the peace-of-mind that they are purchasing quality products from quality providers," said Chad Klostermann, inks and warranties manager, 3M Commercial Graphics. "We are excited to continue bringing a wide range of solutions to the industry."
Clearshield Protection Services, Inc. offers the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty for most finished graphics using a system of matched 3M components comes with the science and weathering technology that assures the brand owner that their image, constructed with 3M graphic products, will perform as expected for the life of the graphic. The 3M™ MCS™ Warranty provides you with comprehensive protection for graphics. The 3M™ MCS™ Warranty continues to be the industry standard for finished graphic warranties.
Clearshield Protection Services, Inc. offers 12 month installation warranty on all our vehicle wrap installations.
Q: What is the benefit of using HP Latex Inks for vehicle wraps? A: HP Latex Inks are the Industry-leading performance for vehicle graphics, banners, canvas, backlite and poster printing. HP Latex Inks provide multiple benefits for vehicle graphics, whether you’re wrapping a single vehicle or a whole fleet of trucks.
Q: What is a Vehicle Paint Wrap or Luxury Wrap? A: Vehicle Paint Wraps is the process to change the vehicle color and protect the paint with the use of vinyl wrapping techniques. The process literally looks like a paint job with the obvious benefit of eliminating the use of paints and other volatile organic components, lead free and a greener alternative to traditional automotive paint, making it a product that even Mother Nature would be happy with.
Q: Can you apply wrap material over plastic/ rubber moldings such as rubber window trims and plastic door handles? A: The material does not stick very well to plastic or rubber parts such as window trims, side plastic moldings and plastic door handles. It is advised that these areas NOT be wrapped and is not warranted. Initially the vinyl will stick, but over a short period of time, the vinyl may begin to fail.
Q: Will you Vehicle Wrap a leased vehicle? A: Yes. Like any other vehicle, the wrap can easily be removed without any damage at the end of the lease. You must always obtain permission to wrap a leased or rented vehicle. However, in general, most leased or rented vehicles have factory paint jobs with excellent paint quality. Vinyl applied over factory paint is best because vinyl can be removed easier without damage or “paint peel.” Leased vehicles are often wrapped throughout the country without incident or damage.
Q: Can I have a wrap installed on my leased or owned vehicle? A: Yes. There are few things to check before you obtain a vehicle wrap for advertising purposes.
Q: How long will a Vehicle Wrap last on my vehicle? A: In the Florida market, you can expect your mobile advertising to last 3 to 5 years until the product becomes difficult to remove, provided you care for the film; washing and waxing are very important to the life of the materials. As in so many products, heat and sun reduce the life of vehicle wraps so the less time in these environments the longer wrap materials will last.

Other issues to consider:
- Removal of emblems, door handles, moldings, mirrors, etc. Should the client request emblems reinstalled or additional components removed/reinstalled for the installation we will charge an additional labor fee.
- Coverage also comes into play with the cost - do you need all the paint hidden, door handles covered, recessed areas covered, mirrors covered, deep returns/seams.
- Addition of non-OEM or dealer added parts and accessories.
- Vehicle prep work is critical for a great looking wrap. Usually the older the vehicle the more prep work required.
- Condition of the paint, rubbers, moldings and plastics. Removal of aged components may lead to broken parts.
- Window perforated films
- Roof coverage option
- Are you using a 3M Preferred Vehicle Graphics Installer or 3M 4 Star Endorsed Vehicle graphics Installer shop?
- Is the shop subcontracting any of the work?
- Does the shop offer a 3M MCS Warranty?
- Have all your photos, logos etc., in the proper formats for the designer
- Enhancing/ touching up photos, obtaining different photos and changes to the initial proofs; all add additional time and price to a project over and beyond the proposal amount. (most shops include at least 3 to 4 hours in their proposals which includes a couple of revision proofs, once this allotted time/revisions are used up you will be charged an hourly rate for design work, some shop quote print, install and include an hourly rate for design)
- Material selection: Less expensive vinyl films, incorrect material for the application, poor lamination, liquid lamination or no lamination.
- Improper print out-gassing time (solvent inks) and lamination: This process is critical and short cutting this step will shorten the life of the print graphic.
- Surface Prep: If the surface is not prepared properly before the wrap then the adhesive can fail to stick overtime.
- Vehicle cleanliness: This step is critical and we like to engage the client to insure the vehicle is washed and cleaned.
- Environment: Extreme temperatures can affect the vinyl adhesive. Very cold or very hot temperatures. Extreme humidity in the air during installation can affect the adhesive. Our facility is climate controlled and we do not install outdoors to insure the best possible installation.
- Improper installation: Lack of vehicle wrap training. Poor fitment. Over stretching the vinyl. Improper heating of the material during and after the installation.
- Maintenance: Washing and waxing. This step cannot be over emphasized for the longevity of the graphics.

- Ability to personalize your vehicle
- Change the color of your car quickly and cost effectively
- Protects paintwork against stone chips and minor abrasions
- Remove it at any time and return to the vehicle’s original finish that being said, many call us to ask if they can wrap their older vehicle as an alternative to a respray/repaint. A basic single color repaint (with no body work or parts removed) is less expensive than paint wrapping; most likely the older vehicles as worn, damaged paint (paint chips, dings, flaking paint etc.) which does not lend itself to vinyl wrapping since any surface defects in the finish will be magnified through the vinyl wrap and there may not be a good adhesive bond to the worn painted surfaces.
- Should you be just looking for a basic color change you can get a vehicle painted for less money than a paint wrap. Vehicles with a good paint finish a "Paint Wrap or Luxury Wrap" has many advantages: You could buy a brand-new silver Audi, have it wrapped in satin black or matte orange, live with it few a years, then peel it off and have a mint-condition, bright-silver paint job Maybe change the paint wrap to lime green and within days you have a new look to your vehicle.
- It’s a temporary tattoo. Get the latest color change - fast and easy You don't have to make a huge commitment only to end up having the color look dated in a couple of years When you're tired of the color, just peel the vinyl off.
- Get Instant Gratification.
- Graphic designers can print new panels anytime you want, making repairs much easier in the event of a fender bender. Rewrapping a fender or even one entire side of the car is far cheaper, easier, and more of an accurate match than trying to redo custom paintwork. That makes it a great option for a road race car. Wraps also have the ability to protect your existing paint job.

- Many states regulate tinting on side or rear windows, meaning placing a wrap over them might get you a ticket.
- If you live somewhere with a Homeowners Association, it may have rules preventing you from parking on your street or in your driveway if your car is covered with advertisements.
- In some states/cities/counties/municipalities using your car as an advertisement will mean you have to re-register as a commercial vehicle. Check with your city hall and Department of Motor vehicles before wrapping your car.
